SUBDIVISION KMiscellaneous Refrigeration Products (continued)

Marginal note:Energy-using product

  •  (1) A miscellaneous refrigeration product is prescribed as an energy-using product.

  • Marginal note:Limits

    (2) However, for the purposes of sections 4, 5, 13 to 15 and 73, a miscellaneous refrigeration product is not considered to be an energy-using product unless

    • (a) it is manufactured on or after January 1, 2008 and before October 28, 2019, and is a type (19) or (20) as described in Table 1 to CSA C300-15; or

    • (b) it is manufactured on or after October 28, 2019.

Marginal note:Energy efficiency standard

  •  (1) The energy efficiency standards set out in column 3 of the table to this section apply to miscellaneous refrigeration products described in column 1 that are manufactured during the periods set out in column 4.

  • Marginal note:Testing standard

    (2) A miscellaneous refrigeration product complies with the energy efficiency standard if it meets that standard when tested in accordance with testing procedures established by the standard set out in column 2 that are applicable to a miscellaneous refrigeration product as defined in section 70.

  •  (1) For the purpose of subsection 5(1) of the Act, the following information must be provided to the Minister in respect of a miscellaneous refrigeration product:

    • (a) its type;

    • (b) its adjusted volume; and

    • (c) its annual energy consumption expressed in kilowatt-hours.

  • Marginal note:Standard

    (2) The information must be collected in accordance with one of the following standards:

    • (a) CSA C300-12 if the product was manufactured on or after January 1, 2008 and before September 15, 2014;

    • (b) CSA C300-15 if the product was manufactured on or after September 15, 2014 and before October 28, 2019; or

    • (c) 10 C.F.R. Appendix A if the product is manufactured on or after October 28, 2019.

SUBDIVISION LCeiling Fans

Marginal note:Definitions

 The following definitions apply in this Subdivision.

10 C.F.R. Appendix U

10 C.F.R. Appendix U means Appendix U to Subpart B, Part 430 of Title 10 to the United States Code of Federal Regulations, entitled Uniform Test Method for Measuring the Energy Consumption of Ceiling Fans, as amended from time to time. (appendice U 10 C.F.R.)

10 C.F.R. §430.32(s)(2)(i)

10 C.F.R. §430.32(s)(2)(i) means the table to subparagraph 430.32(s)(2)(i) of Subpart C, Part 430 of Title 10 to the United States Code of Federal Regulations, as amended from time to time. (10 C.F.R. §430.32(s)(2)(i))

ceiling fan

ceiling fan means a non-portable device that is suspended from a ceiling for circulating air via the rotation of fan blades. It does not include

  • (a) a ceiling fan if the plane of rotation of the fan blades is greater than 45 degrees from horizontal;

  • (b) a centrifugal ceiling fan;

  • (c) a belt-driven ceiling fan;

  • (d) an oscillating ceiling fan; and

  • (e) a ceiling fan with a maximum rotational speed of 90 RPM and a maximum airflow of 52.1 cubic metres/minute (1840 cubic feet/minute). (ventilateur de plafond)

Marginal note:Type

 For the purposes of these Regulations, a ceiling fan is one of the following types:

  • (a) very small diameter;

  • (b) standard;

  • (c) hugger;

  • (d) high-speed small-diameter; or

  • (e) large-diameter.

Marginal note:Energy-using product

  •  (1) A ceiling fan is prescribed as an energy-using product.

  • Marginal note:Limits

    (2) However, for the purposes of sections 4, 5 and 78, a ceiling fan is not considered to be an energy-using product unless it is manufactured on or after January 21, 2020.

Marginal note:Energy efficiency standard

  •  (1) The energy efficiency standard for a ceiling fan is the standard as set out in 10 C.F.R. §430.32(s)(2)(i).

  • Marginal note:Testing standard

    (2) A ceiling fan complies with the energy efficiency standard if it meets that standard when tested in accordance with testing procedures established by 10 C.F.R. Appendix U that are applicable to a ceiling fan as defined in section 75.

Marginal note:Information

 For the purpose of subsection 5(1) of the Act, the following information must be collected in accordance with 10 C.F.R. Appendix U and provided to the Minister in respect of a ceiling fan:

  • (a) its type;

  • (b) its blade span;

  • (c) its air flow at high speed;

  • (d) its ceiling fan efficiency; and

  • (e) its standby power consumption expressed in watts.

DIVISION 2Air Conditioners, Condensing Units and Chillers

 The following definitions apply in this Division.

CSA C656-05

CSA C656-05 means the CSA standard CAN/CSA-C656-05 entitled Performance Standard for Split-System and Single-Package Central Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps. (CSA C656-05)

CSA C656-14

CSA C656-14 means the CSA standard CSA-C656-14 entitled Performance Standard for Split-System and Single-Package Central Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps. (CSA C656-14)

CSA C746-06

CSA C746-06 means the CSA standard CAN/CSA-C746-06 entitled Performance Standard for Rating Large and Single Packaged Vertical Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps. (CSA C746-06)

CSA C746-98

CSA C746-98 means the CSA standard CAN/CSA-C746-98 entitled Performance Standard for Rating Large Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps. (CSA C746-98)

small-duct and high-velocity

small-duct and high-velocity, with respect to a single package central air conditioner or a split-system central air conditioner, means one that has an indoor blower and coil combination that

  • (a) produces at least 300 Pa (1.2 inches of water) external static pressure when operated at an air volume rate of 104 to 165 L/s (220 to 350 cubic feet/minute) per nominal ton of cooling; and

  • (b) uses room outlets that produce velocities greater than 5 m/s (1,000 feet/minute) and that each have an area less than 39 cm2 (6 square inches). (à grand débit et à petits conduits)

space-constrained

space-constrained, with respect to a single package central air conditioner or a split system central air conditioner, means one that

  • (a) has a cooling capacity that is less than or equal to 8.79 kW (30,000 Btu/h); and

  • (b) has an outdoor or indoor unit that has an overall displacement or at least two overall exterior dimensions that

    • (i) are substantially smaller than those of other units of a similar cooling capacity that are usually installed in single family homes, and

    • (ii) if increased, would result in a considerable increase in the usual cost of installation or in a significant loss in the utility of the product to the consumer. (à espace restreint)

10 C.F.R. Appendix M means Appendix M to Subpart B, Part 430 of Title 10 to the United States Code of Federal Regulations, entitled Uniform Test Method for Measuring the Energy Consumption of Central Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps, as amended from time to time. (appendice M 10 C.F.R)

10 C.F.R. Appendix M1

10 C.F.R. Appendix M1 means Appendix M1 to Subpart B, Part 430 of Title 10 to the United States Code of Federal Regulations, entitled Uniform Test Method for Measuring the Energy Consumption of Central Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps, as amended from time to time. (appendice M1 10 C.F.R.)

Marginal note:Type

 For the purposes of these Regulations, a central air conditioner manufactured on or after January 1, 2023 is one of the following types:

  • (a) single package, other than space-constrained;

  • (b) space-constrained single package;

  • (c) split system, other than space-constrained or small-duct and high-velocity;

  • (d) small-duct and high-velocity split-system; or

  • (e) space-constrained split-system.

SUBDIVISION ARoom Air Conditioners

 The following definitions apply in this Subdivision.

CEER

CEER means the combined energy efficiency ratio of the product, expressed in British thermal units per watt hour, that constitutes a single measure of its energy efficiency and that integrates standby mode and off mode energy use with on mode energy use. (CEER)

CSA C368.1

CSA C368.1 means the CSA standard CAN/CSA-C368.1-M90 entitled Performance Standard for Room Air Conditioners. (CSA C368.1)

CSA C368.1-14

CSA C368.1-14 means the CSA standard CAN/CSA-C368.1-14 entitled Energy performance of room air conditioners. (CSA C368.1-14)

CSA C370

room air conditioner means a single-phase electric air conditioner that has a cooling capacity of 10.55 kW (36,000 Btu/h) or less. It does not include a packaged terminal air conditioner, a portable air conditioner or a single package vertical air conditioner. (climatiseur individuel)
