Order Respecting the Privileges and Immunities in Canada of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization

His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Secretary of State for External Affairs, pursuant to section 3 of the Privileges and Immunities (International Organizations) Act, is pleased hereby to make the annexed Order respecting the privileges and immunities in Canada of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization.

Short Title

 This Order may be cited as the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (INTELSAT) Privileges and Immunities Order.

Interpretation

 In this Order,

Convention

Convention means the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations; (Convention)

Organization

Organization means the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (INTELSAT); (Organisation)

Protocol

Protocol means the Protocol on Intelsat Privileges, Exemptions and Immunities done at Washington on the 19th day of May, 1978. (Protocole)

Privileges and Immunities

  •  (1) The Organization shall have in Canada the legal capacities of a body corporate and shall, to the extent provided for in the Protocol, have the privileges and immunities set forth in Articles II and III of the Convention for the United Nations.

  • (2) Representatives of states and governments that are members of the Organization shall have in Canada the privileges and immunities set forth in Article IV of the Convention for representative of members, to the extent that these privileges and immunities are extended to representatives of Intelsat Parties by section 1 of Article 8 of the Protocol.

  • (3) Officials of the Organization shall have in Canada the privileges and immunities set forth in Article V of the Convention for officials of the United Nations, to the extent that these privileges and immunities are extended to staff members of the Organization by Article 7 of the Protocol.
