Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, pursuant to paragraph 12(e)Footnote a of the Export and Import Permits Act, hereby makes the annexed Exemption Regulations (Persons).

Exemption
1 The following persons are exempt from the provisions of the Export and Import Permits Act while acting in the course of their employment:
(a) employees of a foreign state who, for the purpose of ensuring public safety or security, carry goods in the course of their employment when entering or exiting Canada for which permits are required under the Export and Import Permits Act and whose duties and functions are described in an arrangement or commitment between the foreign state and the Government of Canada;
(b) members of the Correctional Service of Canada who are designated as peace officers under section 10 of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act;
(c) police officers or police constables who are members of a police force in Canada;
(d) persons designated as fishery officers under the Fisheries Act when performing any duties or functions under that Act or the Coastal Fisheries Protection Act;
(e) employees of the Canadian Coast Guard;
(f) persons designated under section 6 of the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994, section 11 of the Canada Wildlife Act, section 12 of the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act or section 85 of the Species at Risk Act; and
(g) persons referred to in paragraph (d) or (d.1) of the definition peace officer in section 2 of the Criminal Code and persons referred to in paragraph (b) or (f) of the definition public officer in subsection 117.07(2) of that Act.

Coming into Force
2 These Regulations come into force on the day on which they are registered.
