Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, considering that the collection of costs for certain expenses incurred as a result of the tsunami disaster of December 26, 2004 in South and Southeast Asia is unreasonable and unjust and that remission of that debt is in the public interest, on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Treasury Board, pursuant to subsection 23(2.1)Footnote a of the Financial Administration Act, hereby makes the annexed Remission Order Concerning Certain Expenses Incurred as a Result of the Tsunami Disaster of December 26, 2004 in South and Southeast Asia.

Remission
1 (1) Remission is hereby granted of the following costs — paid or payable — and, any interest payable on those costs, incurred as a result of the tsunami disaster of December 26, 2004 in South and Southeast Asia, to the person responsible for their payment:
(a) costs incurred for the repatriation to Canada or elsewhere of deceased Canadian citizens and their accompanying baggage;
(b) transportation costs for up to two persons designated by the estate or succession to accompany the remains or ashes of the deceased; and
(c) fees incurred for emergency hospitalization or emergency medical care of Canadian citizens.
(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to the portion of costs covered by insurance, public health or any other source of indemnification.
2 (1) Remission is hereby granted of the fee — paid or payable — under section 4 of the Consular Services Fees Regulations and the fees — paid or payable — set out in the schedule to the Passport Services Fees Regulations, and, any interest payable on those fees, to Canadian victims of the tsunami disaster of December 26, 2004 who applied for a passport as a result of that disaster.
(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to passport services fees that are reimbursable under the Repayment of Receipts Regulations, 1997 to destitute persons.
Condition
3 Remission is granted on condition that the claimant provides, before December 26, 2006, an official document to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade evidencing either the claimant’s payment of the fees or costs or the claimant’s indebtedness for them.
