An Act to amend the Canada National Parks Act

SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Canada National Parks Act to

  • (a) allow a local government body to exercise powers in relation to land use planning and development in the town of Jasper as provided in an agreement applicable to that town; and

  • (b) provide that certain regulations do not apply to the town of Jasper once a municipal by-law applicable to that town respecting land use planning and development comes into force.

His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

 Section 9 of the Canada National Parks Act is replaced by the following:

9 Powers in relation to land use planning and development in park communities may not be exercised by a local government body, except as provided in the agreement referred to in section 35 and the Agreement for the Establishment of Local Government in the Town of Jasper between Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada and the Municipality of Jasper, signed by the Minister and the Chairperson of the Jasper Town Committee on June 13 and 25, 2001, respectively, as amended from time to time.

 The Act is amended by adding the following after section 35:

35.1 The following regulations do not apply in respect of the town of Jasper beginning on the day on which a municipal by-law applicable to that town respecting land use planning and development comes into force:
