Complaint Information (Canadian Insurance Companies) Regulations

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, pursuant to section 1021Footnote a of the Insurance Companies ActFootnote b, hereby makes the annexed Complaint Information (Canadian Insurance Companies) Regulations.

Provision of Information

Marginal note:Information to be provided

  •  (1) For the purposes of subsection 487(1) of the Insurance Companies Act, the information to be provided is that complaints must be communicated in writing to:

  • Marginal note:Manner of providing information

    (2) The information referred to in subsection (1) shall be provided by the company by means of

    • (a) a separate written statement; or

    • (b) a statement in a brochure, statement of account or written statement that contains other information that is required, under the Insurance Companies Act, to be disclosed in respect of an arrangement referred to in subsection 482(3) of that Act, a payment, credit or charge card, the cost of borrowing, or any other obligation of the company under a consumer provision.

 The Complaint Information (Canadian Insurance Companies) RegulationsFootnote 1 are repealed.

Coming into Force

Marginal note:Coming into force

 These Regulations come into force on the day on which section 487 of the Insurance Companies Act, as enacted by subsection 424(1) of the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada Act, chapter 9 of the Statutes of Canada, 2001, comes into force.
