His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of National Revenue, pursuant to section 115 of the Customs Tariffa, hereby makes the annexed Alaska Marine Lines, Inc. Remission Order.S.C. 1997, c. 36InterpretationThe definitions in this section apply in this Order.coasting trade means coasting trade as defined in subsection 2(1) of the Coasting Trade Act. (cabotage)coasting trade licence means a licence as defined in subsection 2(1) of the Coasting Trade Act. (licence de cabotage)importer means Alaska Marine Lines, Inc. (importateur)vessel means a vessel as defined in section 2 of the Vessel Duties Reduction or Removal Regulations. (navire)RemissionSubject to section 3, remission is hereby granted to the importer in an amount equal to 97 per cent of the customs duties paid or payable pursuant to the Vessel Duties Reduction or Removal Regulations on the temporary importation of the vessels engaged in coasting trade, for up to a maximum of 15 months.ConditionsRemission is granted under section 2 on condition thatthe vessel is operating under a coasting trade licence;the vessel is imported into Canadian waters during the period beginning October 1, 1996 and ending December 31, 1997;a claim for remission is made to the Minister of National Revenue within two years after the day on which this Order comes into force; andthe importer provides to the Minister of National Revenue evidence or information that demonstrates that the importer is entitled to a remission under this Order.Coming into ForceThis Order comes into force on June 11, 1998.
