definitions apply in these Specifications.</Text><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489334" lims:id="1489334"><Text><DefinedTermEn>auxiliary equipment</DefinedTermEn> means equipment that is connected to, or used in conjunction with, a timber dimension measuring device. (<DefinedTermFr>matériel auxiliaire</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489335" lims:id="1489335"><Text><DefinedTermEn>default temperature range</DefinedTermEn> means, in respect of a timber dimension measuring device, a temperature range of -10°C to +40°C. (<DefinedTermFr>plage de températures par défaut</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489336" lims:id="1489336"><Text><DefinedTermEn>diameter</DefinedTermEn> means, in respect of a log, its theoretical diameter, in centimetres or metres, calculated by measuring its actual circumference and dividing that value by pi (π). (<DefinedTermFr>diamètre</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489337" lims:id="1489337"><Text><DefinedTermEn>disturbance</DefinedTermEn> means a phenomenon or event — such as a short time power reduction or an electrostatic discharge, electrical burst or electromagnetic or electrostatic field — to which a timber dimension measuring device may be exposed and the characteristics of which are inconsistent with the operating parameters of the device. (<DefinedTermFr>perturbation</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489338" lims:id="1489338"><Text><DefinedTermEn>indicator</DefinedTermEn> means a digital device that is an integral part of, or is connected to, a measuring element and that displays measurement registrations. (<DefinedTermFr>indicateur</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489339" lims:id="1489339"><Text><DefinedTermEn>influence factor</DefinedTermEn> means a phenomenon or event to which a timber dimension measuring device or any of its auxiliary equipment may be exposed and that may affect the performance of the device. (<DefinedTermFr>facteur d’influence</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489340" lims:id="1489340"><Text><DefinedTermEn>interval</DefinedTermEn> or <DefinedTermEn>d</DefinedTermEn> means the value, expressed in units of length, of the difference between two consecutively indicated values for any axis of measurement of a timber dimension measuring device. (<DefinedTermFr>échelon</DefinedTermFr> ou <DefinedTermFr>d</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489341" lims:id="1489341"><Text><DefinedTermEn>length</DefinedTermEn> means, in respect of a log, the maximum distance of a straight line, in centimetres or metres, that</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489342" lims:id="1489342"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>is measured as closely as possible along the longitudinal axis of the log; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489343" lims:id="1489343"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>is between two planes that are perpendicular to that axis and located at each end of the log. (<DefinedTermFr>longueur</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Paragraph></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489344" lims:id="1489344"><Text><DefinedTermEn>measurement registration</DefinedTermEn> means a displayed, printed or recorded representation of the measurement information for a log that has been measured by a timber dimension measuring device, including the dimension measured, the measurement value and the unit of measurement. (<DefinedTermFr>enregistrement d’une mesure</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489345" lims:id="1489345"><Text><DefinedTermEn>measuring element</DefinedTermEn> means the parts of a timber dimension measuring device, other than the indicator, that together produce the measurement of a log. (<DefinedTermFr>élément mesureur</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489346" lims:id="1489346"><Text><DefinedTermEn>metrological function</DefinedTermEn> means a function of a timber dimension measuring device that is necessary for the measurement process and that may affect measurement registrations or the validity of transactions, including the sensing of the measured object, the transmission, processing, storage, correction or adjustment of measurement signals or values and the display or printing of measurement values. (<DefinedTermFr>fonction métrologique</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489347" lims:id="1489347"><Text><DefinedTermEn>ready condition</DefinedTermEn> means, in respect of a timber dimension measuring device, the condition in lims:fid="1489348" lims:id="1489348"><Text><DefinedTermEn>timber dimension measuring device</DefinedTermEn> means a measuring machine that measures the length and diameter of lims:fid="1489349" lims:id="1489349" level="1"><TitleText>General</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489350" lims:id="1489350"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489351" lims:id="1489351">Specifications prevail</MarginalNote><Label>2</Label><Text>In the event of a conflict between these Specifications and an instruction issued by the manufacturer or importer, these Specifications prevail to the extent of the conflict.</Text></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2024-03-19" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489352" lims:id="1489352" level="1"><TitleText>Performance</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489353" lims:id="1489353"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489354" lims:id="1489354">Limits of error</MarginalNote><Label>3</Label><Text>The acceptance limits of error and the in-service limits of error that apply to a timber dimension measuring device are ±1 d for the axis and measuring range in use.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489355" lims:id="1489355"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489356" lims:id="1489356">Influence factors</MarginalNote><Label>4</Label><Text>A timber dimension measuring device must perform within the applicable limits of error referred to in section <XRefInternal>3</XRefInternal> when, under controlled conditions, the device is tested while it is exposed to an influence factor, such as:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489357" lims:id="1489357"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>if the device is powered by alternating current, a voltage that is within the range of -15% to +10% of the nominal voltage of the device;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489358" lims:id="1489358"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>if the device is powered by direct current,</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489359" lims:id="1489359"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>a voltage that is less than the nominal voltage of the device and at which voltage the device can produce a measurement registration, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489360" lims:id="1489360"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>a voltage that is up to 10% greater than the nominal voltage of the device;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489361" lims:id="1489361"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>a temperature that is</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489362" lims:id="1489362"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>in the case where the temperature range specified for the device by the manufacturer is a range that spans at least 30°C and is entirely within the default temperature range, that specified temperature range, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489363" lims:id="1489363"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>in any other case, the default temperature range;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489364" lims:id="1489364"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>a humidity level of up to 85% relative humidity and a temperature that is</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489365" lims:id="1489365"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>in the case where the temperature range specified for the device by the manufacturer is a range that spans at least 30°C and is entirely within the default temperature range, that specified temperature range, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489366" lims:id="1489366"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>in any other case, the default temperature range;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489367" lims:id="1489367"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>if the device measures using optical principles, an ambient light level that is within the range of 100 lx to 100 000 lx; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489368" lims:id="1489368"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>if the device measures using acoustic principles, an acoustic interference of up to 100 dB at the nominal centre frequency of the device’s ultrasonic transducers.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489369" lims:id="1489369"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489370" lims:id="1489370">Eccentric measurements</MarginalNote><Label>5</Label><Text>A timber dimension measuring device must perform within the applicable limits of error referred to in section <XRefInternal>3</XRefInternal> when, under controlled conditions, the device is tested while it measures a log in an off-center position.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489371" lims:id="1489371"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489372" lims:id="1489372">Disturbances</MarginalNote><Label>6</Label><Text>When a timber dimension measuring device is exposed to a disturbance, it must</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489373" lims:id="1489373"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>provide a measurement registration that is ±1 d from the measurement registration that would be provided without the disturbance;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489374" lims:id="1489374"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>provide a blank measurement registration and prevent the measurement information from being displayed, transmitted, printed or stored;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489375" lims:id="1489375"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>provide an error message and prevent the measurement information from being displayed, transmitted, printed or stored; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489376" lims:id="1489376"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>provide a measurement registration that is so unstable that it cannot be interpreted as representing the correct measurement values.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2024-03-19" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489377" lims:id="1489377" level="1"><TitleText>Design, Composition and Construction</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489378" lims:id="1489378"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489379" lims:id="1489379">Accuracy and fraud prevention</MarginalNote><Label>7</Label><Text>A timber dimension measuring device must be designed, composed and constructed in a manner that, under normal conditions of use, enables it to measure accurately and does not facilitate the perpetration of fraud.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489380" lims:id="1489380"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489381" lims:id="1489381">Examination and testing</MarginalNote><Label>8</Label><Text>A timber dimension measuring device must be designed, composed and constructed in a manner that enables it to be examined and enables physical test standards or test objects to be applied to it and recovered before they are processed by any other device.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489382" lims:id="1489382"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489383" lims:id="1489383">Intervals</MarginalNote><Label>9</Label><Text>Each interval of a timber dimension measuring device must be</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489384" lims:id="1489384"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>displayed or printed in decimal form, with the decimal submultiple of the unit of length being set apart by a decimal point or comma; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489385" lims:id="1489385"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>equal to 1 × 10<Sup>n</Sup>, 2 × 10<Sup>n</Sup> or 5 × 10<Sup>n</Sup> units of length, where “n” is an integer.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section intervals, the timber dimension measuring device must round the value to the nearest interval or, if the value is equidistant between successive intervals, round it up to the nearest interval.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489388" lims:id="1489388"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489389" lims:id="1489389">Software identification</MarginalNote><Label>11</Label><Text>A timber dimension measuring device must be equipped with a feature that identifies the name and version of the software that it uses.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489390" lims:id="1489390"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489391" lims:id="1489391">Indicator</MarginalNote><Label>12</Label><Text>A timber dimension measuring device must be equipped with</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489392" lims:id="1489392"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>an indicator that has digits, letters or symbols that are of a consistent design, number and size and that permit measurement registrations to be clearly displayed; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489393" lims:id="1489393"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>if the indicator displays information provided by the device and any other source, a feature that displays measurement registrations separately from the information provided by the other source.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:lastAmendedDate="2024-10-23" lims:fid="1489394" lims:id="1489394"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489395" lims:id="1489395">Portable second indicator</MarginalNote><Label>13</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489396" lims:id="1489396"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>A timber dimension measuring device must be equipped with a portable second indicator if the device is installed such that, during an examination of the device by an inspector, the indicator required under section <XRefInternal>12</XRefInternal> cannot be readily observed by the inspector when they are at the measuring element.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489397" lims:id="1489397"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489398" lims:id="1489398">Requirements</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The portable second indicator must</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2024-10-23" lims:enacted-date="2024-03-19" lims:fid="1489399" lims:id="1489399"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>be readily connectable to all of the measuring elements without affecting their performance;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph
