Experts on Missions for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Privileges and Immunities in Canada Order

His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, pursuant to paragraph 5(1)(h) of the Foreign Missions and International Organizations ActFootnote a, hereby makes the annexed Experts on Missions for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Privileges and Immunities in Canada Order.

Interpretation

 The definitions in this section apply in this Order.

Chemical Weapons Convention

Chemical Weapons Convention means the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction, done at Paris on January 13, 1993. (Convention sur les armes chimiques)

Convention

Convention means the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations set out in Schedule III to the Foreign Missions and International Organizations Act. (Convention)

Organization

Organization means the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons established by Article VIII of the Chemical Weapons Convention. (Organisation)

Privileges and Immunities

 Inspectors, inspection assistants and observers, as experts performing missions for the Organization, shall have in Canada, to the extent required for the exercise of their functions in Canada, the privileges and immunities set out in Article VI of the Convention.

Coming into Force

 This Order comes into force on September 23, 1997.
