Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Area Line Regulations

Whereas the province of Nova Scotia is a party to an agreement within the meaning of subsection 6(1) of the Canada–Newfoundland Atlantic Accord Implementation ActFootnote a;

Whereas a dispute between the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and the province of Nova Scotia in relation to a line to be prescribed for the purposes of the definition offshore area in section 2 of that Act was settled by arbitration pursuant to section 6Footnote b of that Act;

And whereas the annexed regulations, which prescribe the line in relation to which the dispute arose, are made in accordance with the settlement of that dispute and are therefore not subject to the procedure set out in section 7 of that Act;

Therefore, Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Natural Resources, pursuant to subsection 5(1) of the Canada–Newfoundland Atlantic Accord Implementation ActFootnote a, hereby makes the annexed Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Area Line Regulations.

Offshore Area Adjacent to that of the Province of Nova Scotia

 For the purposes of paragraph (a) of the definition offshore area in section 2 of the Canada–Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act, the prescribed line of the offshore area of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador that is adjacent to the offshore area of the province of Nova Scotia, as defined in section 2 of the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation Act, is the line described in the schedule.

Coming into Force

 These Regulations come into force on the day on which they are registered.
