Proclamation Designating Certain Countries as Designated States for Purposes of the Act

To all to whom these Presents shall come or whom the same may in anyway concern,

A Proclamation

Whereas in and by section 4 of the Visiting Forces Act, being chapter V-6 of the Revised Statutes of Canada, 1970, as amended, it is provided that the Governor in Council may by proclamation

  • (a) designate any country as a designated state for the purposes of that Act; and

  • (b) declare the extent to which that Act is applicable in respect of any designated state;

And Whereas it is expedient and our Privy Council for Canada has directed that a proclamation do issue

  • (a) designating Antigua and Barbuda, The People's Republic of Bangladesh, Belize, the Republic of the Ivory Coast, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Nepal, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Sierre Leone, the Democratic Republic of the Sudan, the Kingdom of Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Zimbabwe as designated states for the purposes of the said Act; and

  • (b) declaring that the said Act is applicable, with the exception of Part VI thereof, in respect of those designated states;

Now Know You that We, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada, do by this Our Proclamation,

  • (a) designate Antigua and Barbuda, The People's Republic of Bangladesh, Belize, the Republic of the Ivory Coast, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Nepal, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Sierre Leone, the Democratic Republic of the Sudan, the Kingdom of Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Zimbabwe as designated states for the purposes of the Visiting Forces Act; and

  • (b) declare that the Visiting Forces Act is applicable, with the exception of Part VI thereof, in respect of those designated states.

Of All Which Our Loving Subjects and all others whom these Presents may concern are hereby required to take notice and to govern themselves accordingly.

In Testimony Whereof, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent and the Great Seal of Canada to be hereunto affixed. Witness: The Honourable Gerald Eric Le Dain, a Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of Canada and Deputy of Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved Jeanne Sauvé, a Member of Our Privy Council for Canada, Chancellor and Principal Companion of Our Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order of Military Merit upon whom We have conferred Our Canadian Forces' Decoration, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.

At Ottawa, this twenty-first day of August in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eighty-four and in the thirty-third year of Our Reign.
